What Was Special About The Last Two Weeks?

June 16, 2014 by Robbie Adkins

Fotolia_4945175_Subscription_LTwo weeks ago I suggested that we each spend a little time at the end of each day to think about what was special about that day. I challenged myself to do it as a new habit.

What happened for me is that I started noticing things that I appreciated DURING the day, as they happened, taking note so that I would remember them at the end of the day! Wow. Not what I expected but was thrilled that it worked out that way! A discovery for me!

When you spend your day looking for what is right…what is “a good thing”….you will find them…you will find more goodness in your life than you realized when you weren’t looking. It’s a bit like being on a treasure hunt. So I am going to repeat what I wrote last time for you in the hopes that some of you might try it, and then let me know what YOUR experience was!

“As the sun sets, think back through the day and ponder what was special about this day, this one day of your life. It might be a very simple thing, like you got to pick your favorite new rose from your garden and put it on your husband’s desk. It might be that you wrote a supportive email to a friend. It could be that you had a happy conversation with a stranger in the check out line at the grocery store.”

I had a hair appointment yesterday and my friend and hair cutter remarked that I seemed to be over some issues that had bothered me for a couple of years! So I learned that I didn’t have to deal specifically with the issue, but rather spend more time each day feeling good. Wow, what a homework assignment!

Wouldn’t we all rather feel good than feel bad! If I hadn’t sat here and thought about it, the little gems of experiences I had on any given day would have floated right out of my existence without my receiving the benefit of them. Rather I might be sitting here worried about deadlines, paying bills, afraid about the snake (still not yet found), etc, etc, etc.

What really happens when you do something like this, when you stop to appreciate, is that you shift your energy, shift your “vibes.” For years we have been learning how “like energy” attracts “like energy.” So the more important result of this exercise is that you will, without conscious knowledge or control, attract to you more and more special moments.

Try it for just one week. Set an alarm on your phone or computer, or use the sun as your clock…as it sets, do this exercise. What harm can it do to try it? You don’t have to even tell anyone that you are doing it. I ask you again to give it a try, and then let me know if you had the same experience that I did! If you want to tell me how it worked for you, please email me at voiceofyoursoul@gmail.com

Can’t wait to hear how it works for you…and am thrilled about how it feels for me!

The Best Way Is The Integrated Way

June 13, 2014 by Dave Fresilli

Fotolia_38572203_Subscription_Monthly_M-1What does it take to achieve the health and fitness you desire? Does it take proper nutrition? How about exercising? Should we be looking at our lifestyle factors? Finally do we need to consider our overall belief system?

In a word Yes!

As a holistic health practitioner all of the above are taken into consideration when working with a client to improve their health and fitness.

Many folks make the common mistake of thinking that eating better or exercising is the fastest or only way to getting healthy and fit. However there is so much more to our health and fitness than this.

First off it is important to realize that just because someone is fit doesn’t mean they are healthy. There are plenty of fit people out there with chronic health issues.

As I have mentioned before, health and fitness is a lifestyle. For health and fitness to be a lifestyle it means integrating all factors for creating a healthy spirit, mind, and body into your daily life.

An integrated approach will create a deeper connection with your spirit, a true awareness to condition your mind and create the life you desire, and conditioning your body to radiate vibrant energy and wellness.

Is it hard to integrate these steps into your life? No actually it is not. It really comes down to you choosing to create this new life of health and wellness.

Now, it will be different from the way you have been conducting your life, but well worth the effort. We are meant to be healthy. Our bodies are designed to be healthy!

They have the innate ability to heal. We just have to get out of our own way and stop sabotaging the body’s efforts.

So I have a question for you. Is what you are doing working for you? Are you creating the health and fitness you have always desired? Do you have vibrant energy? Do you have the body you desire?

The most challenging situation to be in is feeling stuck and not knowing what to do or where to turn for help.

Creating health and fitness does not have to be hard. I know they certainly seem to make it look hard when you see thousands of diet and exercise books all claiming to be the best.

Once you know the 6 foundational principles to health and wellness all the rest falls into place.

I have spoken of them many times and will continue to do so. They are your Thoughts, Breath, Hydration, Nutrition, Exercise, and Sleep.

Each one is a key component to giving the body what it needs to heal and grow.

I have videos on Facebook and our website that will give you plenty of details on each,

If you really want to learn fast, I have just started an online course this week that you can still get into. You can do it at your own pace, and I am here to answer all of your questions via Skype or email.

Looking Up –

June 12, 2014 by Teri Williams

A new perspective from a tree, a few squirrels and some lively birds…

looking up soulcial livingLast week we had a new stamped concrete patio poured in our backyard.   When an unexpected guest stopped in it brought the perfect opportunity to get a few pieces of furniture out and sit. After he left I took advantage of the time alone to simply “be” by myself for a few minutes.

As I reclined back in one of the chairs I began to observe the trees from a whole new view. What a wonderful surprise it offered to see the life in that tree from a new perspective. The sun was gently shining through the branches, beams of light everywhere. The birds and squirrels were active and interacting more than I’ve ever seen, partially because the temperature was a perfect 72 degrees, but mainly because I had never paid attention at that angle. It was almost dizzying.

I’ve always been a nature lover. Watching birds and animals is a regular part of my daily life. This time was different.

I took few deep breaths and began a tree meditation (you’ll see details below). Tree meditation offered me the chance to ground myself and really connect in to witness what was happening above. It was like watching a natural super highway for the wildlife that is present in my yard; birds were flying, squawking, and playing, mainly by their nests, while the squirrels chased each other up and down the branches, stopping every now and then to grab a bite of something off a branch. I counted over 10 different types of birds in that tree and three different colors of squirrels. For just a minute I felt as if I were actually a part of that scene. It was mesmerizing.

The connection that I feel to all of life and to the Earth was deeply heightened in that moment. I was reminded of why I LOVE being outside and am so grateful for the sun, the warmth, the birds and the squirrels, and the saying, “as above, so below”. We are so similar in that we are all looking for the best way to co-exist.

Here’s your tree meditation to help you do just that.

  • Take a few deep breaths in, until you feel a sense of relaxation wash over you
  • imagine that your feet have roots connecting you to Mother Earth.
  • Imagine your body is the trunk as Earth energy flows through it, grounding, supporting and balancing you.
  • Imagine that your arms and head are the leaves and branches of the tree, connecting you to the sky and light above.

Feel the energy of the Earth, the Sun and the Sky flow through you, calming you, centering you and connecting you to nature.

I invite you to look up; to see the abundance of life above!

What Was Special About Today?

June 2, 2014 by Robbie Adkins

Fotolia_61245786_Subscription_Monthly_MI started to write that I do this exercise every day…but I don’t really do it so it wouldn’t be honest…but I want to…and writing this will remind me to START doing it every day. Here it is.

As the sun sets, think back through the day and ponder what was special about this day, this one day of your life. It might be a very simple thing, like you got to pick your favorite new rose from your garden and put it on your husband’s desk. I did that today. I might be that you wrote a supportive email to a friend. I did that today. It might be that you had a meeting about an art show you are helping organize today and your ideas were well received. I did that today.

What else special happened today?

Our neighbors all came together to report a rattlesnake loose in our yards somewhere. Greater than the fear I felt, it felt good that I live in a place where people care for each other.

This morning when I took the dogs out first thing, I was able to sit by the pool and meditate for a bit. That was nice.

The painters are just about finished with the bathroom remodel painting today…BEAUTIFUL work on my 28-year old bathroom…I get to use it tomorrow!

It is a warm and sunny day with a beautiful clear blue sky.

Oh, and I am REALLY enjoying that I get to take the time to write this column today! How lucky is that!

Any one of those things would make today special…and look at how many things that I had to list! Doing this right now, made me feel good on this otherwise ordinary unremarkable day. And that is the point. Wouldn’t we all rather feel good than feel bad! If I hadn’t sat here and thought about it, those little gems of experiences would have floated right out of my existence without me receiving the benefit of them. Rather I might be sitting here worried about deadlines, paying bills, afraid about the snake (not yet found), etc, etc, etc.

Try it along with me and I’ll report the results for me in my next column, two weeks from now! If you want to tell me how it worked for you, please email me at voiceofyoursoul@gmail.com

Can’t wait to hear how it works for you…and can’t wait to see how it feels for me!
